Full or Part-Time Retirement Plan Specialist

Summary:

The Retirement Plan Specialist supports the expansion of our retirement services area and ideally is a good problem solver. The position requires initiative and ability to multi-task. Providing legendary service and having a culture of collaboration, growth, and making an impact are critical to this role. Organizational skills are required for success. The position reports to the Director of Retirement Plans.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with Director of Retirement Services
  • Assists with scheduling and preparing for client annual reviews
  • Manages systems to ensure employees are appropriately enrolled in plan benefits
  • Plans for each client’s annual compliance testing and required government filings (i.e. 5500 forms)
  • Communicates with, and resolves issues for, employees and dependents around 401(k) loans and transfers
  • Interacts with multiple vendor partners’ systems for plan setup and ongoing maintenance 
  • Assists in analyzing data and making decisions for potential benefit changes
  • Develops relationships with internal personnel and external vendor personnel to ensure communication channels are utilized to support company initiatives and employee service
  • Compiles, cross-checks, and audits reports
  • Develops and edits communications, forms, and plan language
  • Creates and maintains critical documents and spreadsheets
  • Performs special projects as required

Required Experience:

  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to proactively seek and implement process improvements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external customers and     vendors
  • Ability to work independently and be flexible to client needs
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Exemplifies high moral and ethical conduct

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of financial or Qualified Retirement Plan experience
  • Experience administering retirement plans and associated processes
  • Knowledge of Northwestern Mutual systems and platforms 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
 
Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach.
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full or part-time position. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with flexibility for part-time.
 
Travel:

Less than 10% of travel is expected for this position.
