Michigan Startup Internships

Internship Details
The MFF Internship is a summer program for underrepresented students in Michigan colleges and universities. Applicants will go through a selection process led by Michigan Founders Fund and student finalists will have the opportunity to apply to internships with participating startups and tech companies across the state.

This internship is intended for Michigan undergraduate college students who are underrepresented in the tech industry. 
  • Priority will be given to applicants who are: Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC), Women, gender non-conforming, or nonbinary, and/or PELL-eligible; 
  • Priority will be given to students who are permanent residents of Michigan;
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older by May 2023 and enrolled as a first-time undergraduate at a Michigan university or community college.

In addition, applicants must be able to work at least 20 hours per week virtually and/or in-person (depending on the hiring company) for the duration of the internship; Commit to participating in monthly cohort workshops from April – August and take advantage of mentorship opportunities; Have an interest in growing their career in Michigan startups or tech companies.

The 2023 MFF Internship Program consists of:
  • A virtual Meet the startup ecosystem event, open to all Michigan college students
  • Paid summer internships for underrepresented, undergraduate college students at top Michigan tech companies;
  • Monthly workshops, mentorship, and network-building opportunities for student interns.

Program Timeline
  • November 21 - March 1: Student applications open (outreach with university partners and student groups, student info sessions and resume workshops) 
  • Mid-March - Mid-April: Student finalists interview with hiring companies
  • May - August: Student interns go to work and participate in monthly workshops and cohort sessions
  • August: Student networking and celebration event with the Michigan tech community
