Community Skills Specialist

Life Enrichment Academy is looking for staff to support and engage with adults with disabilities at a day program located in Howell, MI. The vision of Life Enrichment Academy is to be a center for learning and developing in an atmosphere of creativity through daily activities and community inclusion.
Being a Life Skills Coach (Direct Support Professional) entails being responsible for a group of individuals each shift and helping them achieve their personal goals through teaching, recreation, art, socialization. fitness, volunteering. This all provides community inclusion and learning important job skills at various sites in Livingston County.
Our Life Skills Coaches must have:
-A reliable vehicle to transport individuals to community sites.
-The physical ability to lift 40+ pounds.
-The ability to assist individuals in the restroom when needed.
-The ability to multi task while being responsible for a small group of individuals.
Life Enrichment Academy is seeking a Life Skills Coach to be part of our team. As a Life Skills Coach, you will have the rewarding experience of providing services that empower, teach, train, and guide the individuals served. You will also provide direct care, assessments, skills training, and the development of services and opportunities in the community to ensure success in independence and community connections.
Additional Functions
Responsible for the care, training, and supervision of people as outlined in their individual plans which may or may not include levels of supervision while in community, personal hygiene, and the teaching of basic safety while in the community
Develop and implement effective teaching strategies to ensure individual success
Encourage participation in opportunities that will facilitate assertiveness and self-esteem
Encourage and support each individual to interact and contribute in their community by volunteering, employment, developing social roles, etc.

What you will bring to us:
Compassion, empathy and a shared vision that individuals have full inclusion in the community and opportunities to achieve goals and acceptance in the community without judgement
Desired - at least 1 year experience in providing direct support to recipients of community human services
Valid state driver's license and good driving record
Successful completion of the post offer process, including criminal background check and clearance from the Office of Recipient Right
Must be able to perform physical activities, including lifting up to 40 lbs
