Summary

Come join a team of passionate individuals at a non-profit serving Michigan's public universities, colleges, K-12 organizations, libraries, state government, healthcare and other Michigan non-profit organizations for over 55 years! You will play an important role in the Merit team, and will be a dynamic team member, ready to contribute to and accomplish the mission of Merit.

You will be part of the Marketing and Events team, whose primary responsibilities include internal and external communications, marketing, events, promotions, lead generation and analytics tracking.

You will be responsible for supporting successful campaigns and events in an agile manner. Your primary marketing tasks will include managing and overseeing the organization's social media accounts, ensuring they are engaging, up-to-date, and aligned with our brand and messaging. You will collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute social media campaigns and promotions. This will involve creating and scheduling social media posts, monitoring and responding to comments and messages, and analyzing social media metrics. Additionally you will assist with the creation and editing of email content, event app setup and maintenance, Swag (promotional products) purchasing and assembling, product ordering, inventory, document management, and website and application reviews. Your duties may also include logistics planning, building room diagrams, banquet event orders, working as a sponsor/benefits liaison, scheduling, attendee report-outs, ordering and conducting inventory on promotional items, executing the event responsibility matrix, clerical tasks and more.

This position will be hybrid based out of our Ann Arbor, MI location, but will be working primarily remotely with exceptions, including as needed for team collaboration, Town Hall meetings held monthly, and larger events conducted by Merit.

    • Business analysis. Gathering market data that will help drive strategies for revenue generation and community network projects.
    • Event support for community network meetings and event proposal submissions.
    • Assist with the development of marketplace vendor contract drafts and statements of work.
    • RFP and Grant Application analysis and response support.
    • Assist with program development, vendor communications and scheduling.
    • Writing, analysis, and/or information gathering for presentations, white papers, case studies, and news items/spotlights.
    • Assist with Citizen Science Broadband Access Data Collection, as needed.
    • Programmatic administrative support

 

Required Qualifications*

  • Currently enrolled in coursework in one or more of the following area(s): Marketing, Communications, Design, Customer Service, Public Relations, Digital and Social Media Marketing, Business, Event Management, or an equivalent field.
  • The ability to work independently and as a member of the team
  • Excellent communication and customer services skills, both written and verbal
  • Time management skills
  • Detail oriented and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal direction
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office and G-Suite
  • Familiarity with social media platforms of all types, prior experience posting updates and navigating within LinkedIn, Facebook and X
  • Willingness and ability to learn event management software interface
  • The ability to acquire new industry knowledge quickly (i.e., broadband, internet, software, and cyber security)
  • Willingness to travel to event sites and vendor locations as needed
  • Flexible work schedule (must work on event days)
  • Comfortable and energized by working within an agile, innovative and dynamic environment

 

Desired Qualifications*

  • The ideal candidate will display a highly energetic and have a positive attitude.
  • Experience working with higher education, K-12 educational institutions, libraries, government, healthcare, research institutions and other public sector non-profit organizations.

 

Additional Information

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
 

Work Schedule

This position will work approximately 20 hours per week, work schedule will be determined by the supervisor and may change if necessary. There may be some occasional work required outside of the established schedule, which may include weekends and holidays. The typical work schedule falls between 8 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday for most staff.


Work Environment

Requires working in a professional office environment. You will use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, cloud-based systems, and AV/teleconferencing software & equipment.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee (with or without accommodations) to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee must frequently work at a computer station, answer telephone calls, emails, and/or other forms of customer/client communication. Employee may on occasion be required to move items of various sizes and weights throughout the office or building.


Travel

Occasional travel (1-4 days per month) within Michigan will be required to attend off-site meetings, conferences, and events.
